If you’re more of a listener, please hop over to my YouTube channel and watch today’s episode. If you’re more of a reader, continue with this post!
After you’ve finished your reading, take out your journal and write the date at the top. Also, write out “Romans 7-9” as your heading so that you can easily look back and refer to this reading whenever you need to.
What Spoke To You?
Write down a verse, or passage, that stood out to you in the reading.
Write down a few thoughts that came to mind about the passage you selected. Why did you select it? How did it speak to you? This doesn’t have to be a formal essay. Just jot down a sentence, or some words that will later remind you why this passage spoke to you.
Let’s share. . . I’ll go first!
I picked out Romans 8: 6-9. “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.
9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.
Isn’t that wonderful? You’re controlled by the Spirit. Once you’re a believer you’re not controlled by sin anymore. That gives you life and peace. It doesn’t necessarily give you an easy life, but it gives you peace through the difficult times and it gives you eternal life. You’re sinful nature will make you want to commit grievances against the Lord, but you are not controlled by it. We are not bound into this kind of slavery. We’ve been set free by the Holy Spirit. What an encouragement!
Take a moment to reflect on the verse. Think about that verse and how it relates to your life right now. His Bible is the living word so it’s always applicable.
Close in Prayer
This is your personal time with God to respond to the Word. Write this down in your journal. This will be a great testimony to the power of prayer as well as a resource for when you want to look back at how reading the Bible daily can change your life!
